Anglesey is a residential neighbourhood in the heart of Gosport, taking its name from Anglesey Lake, a large freshwater lake that forms the centrepiece of Walpole Park. The park and lake together create one of the most pleasant green spaces in the borough, popular with dog walkers, joggers, and families. The lake attracts swans, ducks, and moorhens, and a footpath circles the entire perimeter. Walpole Park extends east from the lake towards the harbour, with formal gardens, a play area, and open grass. The Millennium Promenade, a waterside walkway, runs along the harbour edge from the park towards the town centre, offering views across to Portsmouth and the naval base. The residential streets around Anglesey, including Bury Road, Privett Road, and the roads off St Mark's Road, contain a mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, interwar semis, and some later additions. The area has a comfortable, established residential feel, neither as grand as Alverstoke nor as modern as the Rowner regeneration. St Mark's Road provides a secondary shopping parade with convenience stores, a newsagent, and takeaways. The neighbourhood is well connected, sitting between the town centre and the southern residential areas, with bus routes along Bury Road and easy walking distance to the High Street. Anglesey represents middling Gosport in the best sense: solid housing, useful local facilities, and access to attractive parkland and harbourside walking. The combination of the lake, the park, and the Millennium Promenade makes this one of the more liveable parts of the borough for those who value outdoor space within an urban setting.
