The Borough Town on Portsmouth Harbour

Ann's Hill Road

Street guide, Gosport

Ann's Hill Road climbs from the Stoke Road junction towards the higher ground in central Gosport, passing Ann's Hill Cemetery, the borough's principal Victorian burial ground. The cemetery opened in 1856 and contains some notable memorials, including graves of naval personnel and local dignitaries. The road is residential, lined with a mix of Victorian terraces and later housing. It connects the town centre approaches to the residential streets further south towards Alverstoke. The road has a quieter character than the main through-routes, despite being well used by residents accessing the cemetery and the surrounding streets. The higher ground along this road provides some of the better elevated positions in what is otherwise a very flat town.
