Turk Street
Street guide, Gosport
Turk Street is a short street in the old part of Gosport town centre, connecting the High Street to the harbour area. The name is thought to derive from the Turkish baths that once operated in the area, though this is disputed. The street retains some older buildings and has a slightly cramped, historic character typical of the lanes around the old town. It provides pedestrian access between the High Street and the waterfront walking routes. A few small businesses and takeaways occupy premises along the street. Turk Street gives a sense of Gosport's older, tighter urban grain before the wider roads and open spaces of later development.
